Harmonica Documentary to include our fiddle-style harmonica player, Cara Cooke
In 2003, a documentary was begun which would follow the harmonica and its
players all over the country and parts of the world. The documentary, "Pocket Full of Soul", is just
about ready for its debut. In it are phenomenal players, builders, customizers, and a journey that tells us more about
the harmonica and the people who chose to spend their time with it. Many genres of music will be found in the documentary,
including classical and bluegrass. For more information on the movie, go to www.pocketfullofsoulmovie.com.
Harmonica workshop at Old Settlers Music Festival with Cara Cooke
The Old Settlers Music Festival will continue its run of harmonica workshops
this year with Cara Cooke (http://harmonica2.tripod.com/). Cara brings fiddle-style harmonica to the workshop, as well as other folk/acoustic styles and knowledge. If
you are interested in growing on the harmonica or simply trying the harmonica out, stop by the workshop while you enjoy the
festival. The workshop and show schedules can be viewed on the Old Settlers Music Festival website at www.oldsettlersmusicfest.org.
Cara Cooke will be teaching bluegrass harmonica for several days during the "Teach-In" at SPAH in St. Louis, Mo., in 2008!
Joe Filisko's popular "Teach-In" puts a wide variety of players and teachers together for several days at the SPAH convention so that they
can help others learn from their experience and teachings. The skills
represented include sound reinforcement and a wide variety of playing techniques -- learned under the watchful eyes and ears
of a master. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on this convention and its activities in the future. More
information on the harmonica convention in St. Louis can be obtained at the SPAH (Society for the Preservation and
Advancement of the Harmonica) website (www.spah.org).

Music from the Manchaca All Stars finds a place in "The Wild Man of the Navidad"
From the producer of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", comes a film, " The Wild Man of the Navidad", which
uses the music from the Manchaca All Stars in its soundtrack. The tunes used were written by our own Ben Buchanan.
For more information on the film and its historic inspiration, go to http://www.wildmanofthenavidad.com/_movie/about.html.
Manchaca All Stars take a break from playing the 2nd Friday of the month at the Manchaca Firehall
The Manchaca All Stars have announced their "retirement" as the 2nd Friday night band at the Manchaca Firehall.
Several members of the band may be seen at the Firehall with other groups, but the "All Stars" as a group have decided after
25 years to take a well deserved rest -- playing only occasional performances as the members' schedules allow. Friday
night music will continue, though, so come on down to the Firehall and enjoy great music along with your fish and pie.
(The schedule located elsewhere on this site will give you a clue as to what we know about who's playing when.)
The Manchaca Firehall is located on FM 1626 in the S-curve west of the intersection with Manchaca Rd. From Austin,
follow Manchaca Rd. south to where it dead-ends into FM 1626, then take a right (west) and watch for the Firehall and its
accompanying pavilions on the right. The restaurant is a family style atmosphere with a wide variety of food.
The Friday night special is all-you-can-eat farm-raised catfish. The proprietor is also known for his home-made pies.
Come, eat, listen, and enjoy!
